Just Keep Your Mind Off Of It...

I feel like a lot of advice that people give these days for those struggling is, “Just keep your mind off of it.”

For obvious reasons, I’m going to say this is awful advice. For those who don’t understand why I’m calling it obvious, I’ll explain.

In life, we push a lot to the side – mean things said, responsibility, work, self-encouragement – and one thing all of these things have in common is they build up.

If you push off work until later, it’s going to build up. If you’re going to avoid responsibilities, they’re going to build up. If you’re going to push away mean things said, they’re going to build up.

What happens when things build up? They over encumber.

We live in a time where people push things to the side and avoid them until what I’ll call “the explosion” happens. This explosion is the tipping point and what can hurt a lot of people, whether it’s themselves or others.

I feel like this destructive act can break relationships, hurt people and even kill. This explosion can be taken out verbally, physically or emotionally. I feel this is the point people decide to kill, themselves or others.

Good news though – there is a way to beat this explosion – a way to avoid it and even become better and feel better.

Communication is the key. Having people, even one person, who you can talk to and let them know how you feel. Best case scenario you deal with issues when they happen, with the person that it happens with, but I understand that’s not always the easiest.

We are a species that relies on communication yet so many of us avoid it when it can really save your life.

I have my best friend who is always there no matter what and God knows she has saved me from many circumstances where someone could have been hurt.

Basically what I’m saying is do what you were born to do… talk.

I promise it’ll help, no matter who you are.

Let’s break this silence around our issues and start talking - keeping open lines of communication.

We can do this, we all matter!
