Breaking the Silence

With mental health, and a lot of issues in general around the world, there seems to be this implanted stigma where we are we aware of it, we say they’re things we have to beat but when it comes down to it, there’s this silence, this wall that no one wants to climb over, let alone break through.
“What are you getting at Caleb? I donate, I ran in an event.”
I’m not going to bash people who do that and go to events that raise money. These are awesome and the money that is raised goes towards amazing things.
I’m talking about going in the front lines and making a difference, learning about these health issues and heling deal with them first hand. It’s one thing to help out financially, but to learn about a part of society, a major part of society might I add, and knowing how to help in situations that could happen at any instant can really make the world easier for people suffering from mental health issues.
“What do you mean Caleb?”
I’m glad you asked. There are so many mental health diseases out there and they affect so many people in so many ways. People who know they suffer from them need help, people who help people who suffer from them need help and people who don’t know they suffer from it need help.
There are so many amazing helplines, chatting sites and websites that can teach people and help people learn more about these societal strongholds and help break them down. We need to know how to make this walk of life as easy for them as it is for someone not suffering from a mental health issue.
As someone who’s best friend suffers from a severe anxiety, I can’t just go to events and donate and tell her, “I did my part, good luck.” I delve my life into studying and learning everything I can to help her. It’s a choice, it’s a little bit of work but does it help? Yes, there is no doubt in my mind that it helps.
I do not want to be a bystander and watch people suffer. I do not want to sit back and watch my best friend suffer from an anxiety attack and not know what to do. Neither should you.
If you saw a young child being abused, would you not help? If you saw a dog suffering, would you not do everything you can to make it better? So, why would you sit back and watch a mental health eat at someone, eat their whole life away.
Mental health issues have the ability to corrupt, alter and scare people from their lives. They could be the most perfect, sweet, sociable and successful person but when the issues kick in, it ca n destroy them, break their confidence, end everything.
There’s hope though. Study, learn, practice and love.
If you know someone, be there for them. If you don’t, be there for someone. You really never know who will be affected.
When it comes down to the nitty-gritty of what I’m saying, it’s really just love people. Help them through the rough times and be the best person you can be to help them be the best they can be.
Everyone matters, everyone deserves to live and everyone deserves the chance to be loved.
So love, my friends. Break the silence.
